The project for upgrading the central square of the town of Butrimonys has been implemented. This object falls into the territory of cultural heritage property. The central square of the town is an immovable urban monument. Unique object code – 17074. Valuable features: street network, square plan, fragment of capital building. The old part of the town, which formed before the 17th century, is now an urban monument of national significance. Formed at the intersection of three main streets, this unique triangular square is the only one of its kind in Lithuania. The design was prepared according to the special heritage protection requirements; the existing structure of the square was taken into account and objects of importance to the town were preserved.
The new town square features four functional zones: the event zone, the active zone, the recreation zones and the central part, which is the focal point of the square.
The territory is equipped with hard surfaces, pedestrian paths, and street furniture. Trees that were in poor condition were removed, the remaining trees were pruned, and new trees were planted. All of the surfaces, materials and elements are planned to be of classic shapes and natural materials in order to preserve the historical and cultural importance of this territory.
The central zone of the park features the Sūkurys (“Vortex”) fountain, which is one of a kind in Lithuania. This is a giant clear acrylic flask with a huge vortex of water spinning inside and water flowing down its sides. The rotating vortex of water gives the environment a dynamic feel as well as a sight that is unusual and unique to the human eye.
The fountain has been recognized as “one of the most beautiful fountains in Lithuania”.
